Lynda & Tinks

Lynda

Lynda Davey, is a freelance BHS Intermediate Teacher and coach from Christchurch in Dorset. She has been training and working with Mary Wanless since 1995. She is an accredited Senior Ride With Your Mind Coach, teaching with Mary on her courses.

Lynda is passionate about the Ride With Your Mind approach to understanding horses and riding. In recent years, she has become influenced by Andrew McLean's Equine Learning Theory approach to ground work, and Philippe Karl's horse training; on line, in hand and ridden.

Lynda loves to teach, to help people to develop their riding skills, connecting with and understanding the horse. Whether novice or experienced, happy hacker or competitor, nervous or bold, she will enjoy exploring with you and developing your abilities.

Pictures, left, show Lynda with her beautiful girl, Tinks, practicing and developing their skills together.

Ashleigh

Ashleigh

Ashleigh Sanderson has ridden for 30 plus years, and taught for over 20. This riding and training varies from starting out in three-day eventing, moving through show jumping, dressage, showing, equitation, performance riding and running a successful training yard of 80 horses.

After travelling extensively through 2009-14, and teaching on four continents, Ashleigh started 'Kuda Guru'. This is based on the name given to her by the local staff in Malaysia and Indonesia, meaning horse teacher. With her philosophy of listening to your horse and allowing him to teach you, this can also be read as Kuda Guru - allow your horse to be the teacher. 'Kuda Guru' is partly web based, offering theory lessons online, and partly offering her services travelling around the world teaching clinics.

She has always had a huge interest in alternatives and ground work - studying lunge and unmounted work with several European master trainers, along with various alternative therapies including zoopharmacognosy, reiki and Bowen. This has also led to a good understanding of equine anatomy and movement.

A fascination for biomechanics and body awareness has led to spending time with Mary Wanless (Ride with your Mind) at her yard here in the UK, and she is now working towards becoming an accredited trainer, adding to qualifications through both the British Horse Society and the National Equestrian Federation of South Africa.

Dorothy

Dorothy

Dorothy

Dorothy Marks is a Chiropractor, and an Accredited RWYM coach and classical riding instructor. She lives in North Somerset and teaches freelance. In her Chiropractic practice, Dorothy no longer treats people but works with horses and dogs using the McTimoney approach. She has a particular interest in the anatomy and biomechanics of both horses and riders, which complements her teaching both in ridden and dismounted work.

Dorothy has been riding with Mary Wanless since 1990, and has been coaching since 2000. For the past 5 years, she has been studying with Philippe Karl, the French Classical Riding Master, and she was very privileged to be accepted for a riding place on the first Teachers' Course that he is teaching in the UK. Dorothy is very excited by the combination of Mary's approach to rider training together with Philippe's approach to horse training. She is currently in the process of taking the exams to gain her status as Licensed Instructor in Philippe Karl's School of Légèreté (lightness).

Dorothy also has a deep interest in saddles and saddle fit both for horses and riders, and for many years fitted saddles. She no longer sells saddles but will consult on saddle fitting and advise on how best to refit existing saddles.

In addition, Dorothy likes to learn about other approaches to horsemanship and horse training, and has a good understanding of the concepts of the work of Monty Roberts, Linda Tellington-Jones, the Parellis, and most recently straightness training. She tries to look for where systems correspond and complement each other, and how incorporating aspects can increase the 'tools in her toolkit'!

See left for photos of Dorothy riding her 15yo Anglo-Arab gelding, Solo, and working with 7yo ArabxASB, Tango, from the ground.

Dorothy is also very proud of her mum, Tordis, who is 90, and worked with Mary in decades gone by... the last photo shows Dorothy and Tordis out hacking last summer.

Kate

Kate

Kate is a BHS Intermediate Instructor who was originally introduced to Mary and Ride With Your Mind techniques in 1982 and was immediately impressed with the clarity it gave to her teaching and the impact it made on her own riding, and the way it improved the horses way of going.

Kate lives in Somerset and keeps her own horse, Pippa, on the same yard as Dorothy Marks who introduced her, through her coaching, both to the methods of Philippe Karl, (which sits well with the biomechanics focus of RWYM) and the requirements and benefits of keeping horses barefoot.

Kate finds it fascinating working with pupils using RWYM methods and loves seeing their pleasure with the changes they make.
